OLFACTORY FUTURES LAB

Head: MUELLER-DIVJAK (Jeanette Mueller + Paul Divjak)

SMELL Beyond Shame. Beyond Dichotomy. Beyond Control.

What if one of the most powerful and least understood senses became the basis for a radically new artistic research lab?

Based on MUELLER-DIVJAKs research and olfactory art practice within the last decades and the ongoing multisensory research in the framework of the FWF/PEEK project SENSING LIVING SYSTEMS at AIL, the Olfactory Futures Lab of Digital Art / University of Applied Arts as an international pioneer forms a research platform that deals with scent/smell as a medium of ephemeral, relational impact and opens itself to critical, relational, ecological and post-anthropocentric perspectives. It uniquely positions scent/smell as a critical material at the intersection of art, AI, systems science, technology, memory, affect, ecology, and social transformation such filling a gap in the academic field.
